FLED 2999 is a course designed to guide you throught the different tasks required for entry into the education profession, with a focus on the field of foreign language education. Below you will find the various requirements and some details related to each.
Please note that this website is only an overview of FLED 2999--your most important resources will be:
(1) your professor
(2) your @valdosta.edu email (check this at least once per day!)
(3) your BlazeVIEW FLED 2999 site
Your FLED 2999 professor will be your primary resource for information regarding your progress in the course. You should be very attentive to due dates and email instructions from your professor! These will contain information that will help you to navigate the complex requirements for beginning an education degree in the state of Georgia.
Requirement 1: Minimum GPA
Students must provide evidence of meeting the minimum GPA required for admission to your program [GPA of 2.75] on all previously attempted coursework – a minimum of 45 hours of coursework must have been completed prior to enrollment in this course.


Requirement 2: Meet the CoEHS Regents’ Test Requirement.
This means a grade of C or better in ENGL 1101 and ENGL 1102. See your advisor, the Modern and Classical Languages Office, or the Registrar's office for informaiton on the Regents' test and how to meet these requirements.

Requirement 3: Post passing scores for the GACE Basic Skills Tests or GACE Program Admission Tests (200, 201, 202, or Combined Tests 700).
This could also be satisfied by exemption of test, as documented on theTeacher Education Information page in Banner. Exemption scores are: SAT - 1000; ACT - 43 (Math + English); GRE before August 1, 2011- 1030 (Verbal and Quantitative); and GRE on or after August 1, 2011 - 297 (Verbal and Quantitative)
Requirements for FLED 2999
Requirement 4: Completion of criminal background check.
The background check must also be documented on the Teacher Education Page in Banner by turning it into the CoEHS Advising Center, Room 1020. See the Criminal Background Check Module

Requirement 5: Provide evidence of current professional liability insurance.
This must also be documented on the Teacher Education Information page in BANNER by turning it in to the CoEHS Advising Center, Education Center, Room 1020. See the Liability Insurance Module.

Requirement 6: Purchase and activate LiveText account.
LiveText will be an important part of the documentation for your work as a teacher candidate throughout your career. It is very important that you purchase LiveText and become familiar with using it as you being your education courses. See the LiveText Module for due dates for LiveText purchase and orientations; documents and forms will be completed during the LiveText orientation or the online module

Requirement 8: Complete the two required forms in LiveText
NOTE: if you have done these during a previous semester, you may be UPDATING these forms. See the LiveText Module above for due dates for LiveText; documents and forms will be completed during the LiveText orientation or the online module.

*Note: You will complete the two forms in LiveText during the first semester you are enrolled in a 2999 course. You must update these two forms every subsequent semester you are enrolled in a 2999 course or this will result in you not receiving an 'S'.

Requirement 9: Complete the Code of Ethics for Educators Quiz and the Statement of Affirmation Survey.
You must score 100% on the Code of Ethics Quiz. This affirms that you read, understand, and will abide by the Georgia Code of Ethics for Educators.

Requirement 10: Review your Program of Study
You must find the link in the Program of Study Module and COMPLETE the Program of Study Confirmation survey!

Requirement 11: Be sure to get an "S" in FLED 2999!
You must continue to register for and take the appropriate 2999 course for your major every semester until you are admitted to Teacher Education and earn a grade of “S” in 2999.

Requirement 7: Apply for admission to teacher education
As soon as you have completed the following requirements, you should apply for admission to Teacher Education and your pre-service certificate.
a. Have a major leading to teacher certification
b. Minimum GPA of 2.75
c. Minimum of 45 hours of coursework
d. Post passing scores for the GACE Basic Skills test or provide documention needed for exemption
e. Complete the GaPASC Ethics Entry Assessment
Instructions for doing this can be found in the Application to Teacher Ed Module on BlazeVIEW.
Instructions on how to submit the free application for your pre-service certificate will be provided to you by the COEHS Certification Officer upon admission to Teacher Education. Be sure to check your VSU email daily after applying for admission to Teacher Education for instructions on applying for the GaPSC pre-service certificate. You must be issued the GaPSC pre-service or non-renewable teaching certificate prior to the end of the semester to earn a grade of 'S' in this 2999 course. All candidates are required to hold a valid GaPSC pre-service or non-renewable teaching certificate in order to enroll in professional coursework
